The Yoga StoryHi, I’m Ivy Yin and I love sharing my teaching with beginners of all ages. When I started practicing yoga, I was stressed out and I couldn’t touch my toes. I thought, this can’t be for me — it’s too late for me to learn. But here’s what I found: learning yoga led me to find an inner peace and path towards a life that is more gratifying than I ever imagined. I would like to share my experience with yoga to help others enhance their life. My yoga teaching certification and my graduate degree in Global Sustainability give me a unique set of tools to provide a grounded teaching approach to help others experience transformational breakthroughs at any life stage. It is so satisfying and meaningful to me to have students say, “I did my first yoga pose this morning. I didn’t think I would have many “firsts” at this point in my life. It’s exhilarating!” So if you are ready to take the plunge, send me a message and we cant get you on the path to enlightenment!

Yin & Flow |
Through the practice of Yin Yoga, one targets the fascia (connective tissue) in the body, which makes it a marvellously therapeutic tool for healing bodily, mental, and emotional imbalances. Yin Yoga poses focus mainly on the lower parts of the body because the abundance of dense connective tissue around the joints in these areas require extra care and attention. This results are greater circulation, less mental strain, and the ability to find relaxation while gently stretching the tissue. Along with the Yin, I also provide the Yang through a flow. Too much of one thing can leave you depleted in another. I find it important to assist my students in finding the perfect balance for their practice.

Stillness |
At the beginning and end of each practice we will clear the body with stillness. The Swedish mysticist Hjalmar Engstrom describes three steps to stillness:
“The first step is to withdraw from the world outside, from everything external, and come into rest. The second thing is to withdraw from your inner desires, even the desire to be still. The third stage is just to be the stillness, which is like a sabbath. This restful sabbath is the source of all things. And when one becomes befriended with this source, it follows her wherever she goes and she becomes free.” |
